Yeovil's Williams at the double

Yeovil survived a scary last 15 minutes to record a 2-1 win over Preston and climb out of the relegation zone.

The Glovers deserved the points for their magnificent first-half performance in which they had eight shots on target but converted only one of them thanks largely to the brilliance of North End goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

There was a third-minute setback for the visitors when central defender Craig Morgan was shown a straight red card for holding back the goal-bound Andy Williams on the edge of the box.

Williams was a constant threat and it was he who put Yeovil ahead after 30 minutes when Clarke Carlisle made a mess of a clearance. Williams struck again in the 61st minute, tapping in from close range after Dean Parrett broke clear.

But if Yeovil thought it was going to be an easy ride they were soon mistaken. In the 73rd minute Paul Parry provided the left-wing cross for Carlisle to head home at the far post to set up a tense finale.

Yeovil held on but lost skipper Paul Huntington in the last minute when he too was shown a straight red card for violent conduct following a challenge on Jamie Procter. - http://www.skysports.com/
