Betting For World Cup Qualifiers | Carl Jenkinson Wants To Play For England

THE LATEST SPORTS NEWS – Young Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson expressed his preference to play for England in the senior national team.

Jenkinson is currently playing for the Under-21 team of Finland – his mother’s birthplace. He was able to impress England manager Roy Hodgson, who was looking for new talent to boost his side. The defender is currently betting to play for the English squad once allowed to do so.

Hodgson has invited Jenkinson to play for England once he is done with his duty for Finland. He said that he did not need to convince the player further to join the English team, which has played past through rival San Marino successfully last Friday

Napoli beats Sampdoria 1-0 to rejoin Juve in lead

ROME (AP) — Napoli rejoined Juventus at the top of Serie A with a 1-0 win at 10-man Sampdoria on Sunday, as the southern club seeks its first Italian title since Diego Maradona first led it to glory.
Photo: AP Napoli forward Edinson Roberto Gomez Cavani celebrates his side's 1-0 win at the end of a Serie A soccer match between Sampdoria and Napoli, in Genoa, Italy, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

Edinson Cavani converted a penalty for Napoli in the 67th for his league-best sixth goal of the season after six rounds. Daniele Guastaldello was given his second yellow card for tripping Marek Hamsik at the edge of the area to set up the penalty.
Replays showed that the penalty may have occurred just outside the area. "It was on the line, and the line is part of the penalty area," said Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri, who was sent off in the first half for overly vigorous protesting.
Maradona led Napoli to its only two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990. At the very least, Napoli is aiming for a top-three finish to get back into the Champions League, having reached the knockout stage last season before being eliminated by eventual champion Chelsea.
Last season, Napoli finished fifth in Serie A. Against an organized Sampdoria squad, Napoli rarely threatened and was fortunate to come away with a win. "Last season we would have lost a match like this," Mazzarri said. "We've improved. We're more aware of our capabilities now. The Champions League helped us grow."
Juventus and Napoli have 16 points each, with head-to-head records the first tiebreaker in Italy. Their first meeting comes in three weeks. Juventus beat Roma and old rival Zdenek Zeman 4-1 on Saturday, while struggling AC Milan gave up a lead in a 1-1 draw at Parma.
Inter Milan and Lazio are tied for third, four points behind the leaders, after each club won Sunday. Inter edged 10-man Fiorentina 2-1 for its first home win of the season and Lazio beat Siena 2-1. In an entertaining match at the San Siro, Inter went ahead with a penalty from Diego Milito in the 17th and a score from Antonio Cassano in the 34th before Brazilian midfielder Romulo pulled one back for Fiorentina in the 40th for his first Serie A goal.
Fiorentina dominated the ball possession until the Tuscan club was reduced to 10 men when defender Gonzalo Rodriguez picked up his second yellow card in the 62nd, while Inter relied on counterattacks, providing an attractive contrast.
Fiorentina held Juve scoreless midweek and again impressed under new coach Vincenzo Montella, despite the loss. In Rome, newly signed Brazilian midfielder Honorato Ederson gave Lazio the lead with a header in the 17th, and Cristian Ledesma added a penalty in the 38th before Massimo Paci pulled one back for Siena in second-half added time.
Including the Europa League, Lazio had gone three matches without scoring. Torino thrashed Atalanta 5-1 after Rolando Bianchi scored twice to go with goals from Alessandro Gazzi, Alen Stevanovic and Danilo D'Ambrosio.
Palermo was nearly as impressive, beating Chievo Verona 4-1 with a hat trick from Fabrizio Miccoli for the Sicilian club's first win of the season — and first points since Gian Piero Gasperini replaced the fired Giuseppe Sanino two weeks ago.
Newly promoted Pescara won its second straight with a 2-1 victory at Cagliari's new stadium, which was opened to fans for the first time. Also, Bologna beat Catania 4-0 with two goals from newly signed Alberto Gilardino.
Earlier in the lunchtime fixture, Udinese and Genoa played to a lackluster 0-0 draw. Udinese manager Francesco Guidolin left top scorer Antonio Di Natale out of his squad for disciplinary reasons and both sides rarely threatened.

Villa scores late for 1-1 draw with West Brom

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Substitute Darren Bent grabbed a late equalizer for Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw with midlands rival West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, denying the in-form visitors a victory that would have lifted them to third place in the Premier League.
Photo: AP Aston Villa's Darren Bent celebrates after scoring against West Bromwich Albion during their English Premier League soccer match at Villa Park Stadium, Birmingham, England, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

The England striker lashed in a left-foot shot from close range in the 80th minute, making a statement to new manager Paul Lambert after being stripped of the captain's armband and then being dropped to the bench following a barren start to the campaign.
"It's obviously been a difficult couple of weeks, losing the captaincy first off then finding out I wasn't playing today," Bent said. "But I managed to score the goal to get a point." Shane Long put the visitors ahead in the 51st when he showed quick reactions to guide home a low finish after Villa defender Ron Vlaar's attempted clearance flew straight at the Ireland international.
While sixth-place West Brom has now made its best start to a top-flight season in 34 years, Villa stayed 15th in the 20-team standings having won just one of its first six games under Lambert since he joined from Norwich in the close season.
But Villa bossed possession for long spells of a match that only sprung into life after Long's goal, his fourth in all competitions this season. "The response of the players to falling behind was excellent — I cannot ask for any more," Lambert said. "Everybody is in it together, we need every player to perform."
Substitute Romelu Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea, nearly won all three points for West Brom when his deflected shot brushed against the post with injury time approaching. But that would have been unfair on Villa, which also went close through Christian Benteke and Joe Bennett after the break.
In the end, they needed record signing Bent to get them out of trouble and he couldn't have picked a better time to show his eye for goal, with England manager Roy Hodgson in the stands. Bent has been ignored in recent months by Hodgson and is no longer a regular with his club either following the summer signing of Benteke from Belgian side Genk.
But he showed he is one of the country's most lethal strikers by taking just 11 minutes to make his mark after coming on, lurking at the back post after a bit of pinball in the area after a corner to steer home a predatory finish.
It was only the fifth goal West Brom has conceded in six games under Steve Clarke, who is defying the critics who said he would struggle to make the step up to manager after 12 years as an assistant coach at Chelsea, West Ham and then Liverpool.
"Having been 1-0 in front and with decent control of the game for long parts, we are a bit disappointed not to win," Clarke said. "But then again, if you said before that we would come away from a difficult away game with a point, then we would have taken that."
In a nice touch by Villa fans, a minute's applause was dedicated to club captain Stiliyan Petrov in the 19th minute — the number of his jersey — with the Bulgarian still out of action after being diagnosed with leukemia in March.

Yesterday's match, a controversial 2-1 loss to United, was Liverpool's first time back at Anfield since the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's findings.

Yesterday's match, a controversial 2-1 loss to United, was Liverpool's first time back at Anfield since the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's findings. The report absolved Reds supporters of any blame in the 1989 stampede that killed 96 fans, and the day was sure to be an emotional one. It was, at the start—both team captains took part in a release of 96 balloons, and even Luis Suarez and Patrice Evrawere moved to shake hands and bury their (comparatively) petty grudges.
It was only after the match that things turned ugly. When the stadium emptied, the United supporters' section remained full, serenading Anfield with chants of "murderers, murderers" and "it's never your fault, always the victims, never your fault."

These weren't new chants cooked up for the special occasion. "Murderers" has been a standbyagainst Liverpool over the years, from United and other clubs. (I don't know if that makes it better or worse.) And some United supporters were insistent that yesterday's chants were not in reference to Hillsborough, but the Heysel Stadium disaster of 1985 that resulted in the deaths of 39 Juventus fans. What's more, the witnesses claim, they were goaded by Liverpool fans imitating airplanes—a reference to the Munich plane crash that wiped out United in 1958.
Regardless, it was a complete failure of an attempt at civility. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson, in remarks echoed by the Manchester United Supporters' Trust, had called for an end to anti-Liverpool chants, or at least a cessation for this one week.
"We agree 100 per cent with the statement made by Sir Alex Ferguson and wish to leave no room for doubt – we unequivocally condemn chants mocking the Munich air crash, Hillsborough and indeed any other human tragedy," reads the MUST statement.
Yeah, that didn't happen. Now there are calls for lifetime bans for the offending United fans. Then after that maybe they can ban anti-Semitic chants against Tottenham, and all the racist chants against everyone. What I'm saying is, 70,000 Ravens fans chanting "bullshit" is like a ladies' day in the Premier League.

England Survives Ukraine Through Lampard's Late-Game Penalty

If not for Frank Lampard, who scored a penalty three minutes before the end of the match, England would have lost from playign against tough oponnent Ukraine.

Ukraine gained a well-deserved advantage during the first half when Yevgeni Konoplianka struck their only goal in the match. England visibly struggled from dealing with a strong Ukrainian side, with the ball possession rate being equal to both sides.

Yevgeni Kacheridi hand-balled Danny Welbeck, who came in as a substitute. The resulting yellow card for the Ukrainian paved way for Lampard's successful penalty, ending the match 1-1. Captain Steven Gerrard received a red card on the 88th minute, sending him off from his side's October San Marino match.

Manager Roy Hodgson looked relaxed with the Lampard goal, knowing that his side is a less-potent one than the one who faced Moldova's 5-0 thrashing. The side fell short of viable options after Theo Walcott and Daniel Sturridge fell ill with a virus that gave them stomach cramps. Players staying in the injury sidelines are Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Cole.

While the England squad is lacking its key players, Ukraine proved to be a difficult group opponent. The first half saw the Ukrainians in impressive command of ball possession. Tom Cleverley's shots missed after gaining goal opportunities that could have given England earlier leads.

The toughness of Ukraine became more apparent when Roman Zozulya slammed into Gerrard, leaving the England captain in pain. Oleg Gusev nearly slotted a goal beyond Joe Hart but narrowly missed the woodwork.

Jermain Defoe successfully shot from 20 yards, initially giving what would have been England's first goal in the match. Referee Cuneyt Cakir came in and made the effort invalid, ruling that the midfielder committed an illegal hand-off right before the shot.

As Gerrard thwarted an Ukraine attempt from Ruslan Rotan, Tom Cleverley's notorious misses came in. First, his shot went directly to keeper Andriy Pyatov after taking off from a Defoe pass. Then, he wasted a clear opportunity by shooting wide from an ideal position, with the ball hitting the outpost.

Manchester United bid for Van Persie stalls

Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United’s attempts to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal have stalled.

The Netherlands striker, 29, has 11 months left on his Arsenal contract and has declined an offer to extend his deal at Emirates Stadium.

“We’ve made a bid, they [Arsenal] have been trying to negotiate with other clubs,” said United manager Ferguson.

“I don’t have a gut feeling about it. We can’t get a breakthrough with Arsenal.”

Ferguson

first revealed the Red Devils had made an offer for the Gunners forward on 20 July.

It is not known whether they have improved their original offer, but Ferguson said he did not know whether United’s pursuit of Van Persie would be successful.

It is understood Arsenal are reluctant to enter formal negotiations until a bid exceeds £20m.

“I don’t know what Arsenal’s thoughts are because they’re not giving anything away,” he told reporters after United’s friendly against Barcelona in Gothenburg on Wednesday, which finished in a 0-0 draw before Barca won 2-0 on penalties.

“It’s difficult to say why they’re operating this way. I can’t give you any more information. We just have to persevere.

“We are trying our best and hopefully it will come our way but there’s no progress at this moment in time.”

Van Persie scored 41 goals in 53 games for club and country last season and was named Professional Footballers’ Association and Football Writers’ player of the year.

Juventus have also been pursuing Van Persie’s services while Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini revealed the Premier League champions were now

out of the running

for the striker.

Meanwhile, Ferguson admitted to being staggered after hearing that another summer transfer target,

Lucas Moura,

had agreed to join French side Paris St-Germain.

The Brazilian, who has represented his country at the London Olympics, will join in January 2013 on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Sao Paulo.

“To tell everyone that PSG are here they’ve signed Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” added Ferguson. “They must have spent about £150m in the last month.

“When somebody’s paying 45 million euros (£35.5m) for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game’s gone mad. I find it quite amazing.”

Ramos would welcome Modric to Real

Sergio Ramos is keen for Real Madrid to sign Luka Modric and believes that he would be a fantastic addition to the squad, a story from Talk Sport reports.

The Modric transfer saga has gone on for some time now and he has expressed his desire to leave his current club Tottenham this summer.

However, the La Liga side are not prepared to match Spurs’ valuation of their playmaker, which is believed to be £40 million.

The English Premier League team may now be able to keep hold of their star man as the deal seems to have stalled recently.

But defender Ramos said: “We’ve got a great squad, with amazing footballers, and one or two more will join.

“I like football and good footballers and Modric is one of them. He currently doesn’t play in this team and I can’t say any more than that. If he joins he’ll bring something to the team.”

Modric also wanted out of White Hart Lane last summer and was set to move to Chelsea and this year it is Spain which is his desired destination.

Real are looking to retain their title this season after pipping Barcelona to the post last year. Jose Mourinho will also want to build a squad that can challenge for the Champions League.

The 26-year-old is certainly a fantastic player that could be just what Mourinho’s men need. Time is running out though and they have just over three weeks to sign him.

Bayern  Munchen vs. Chelsea, I guess since this two teams has the ability and are strong teams, we can’t picture out who will take the championship.

I guess by just simply looking back from their previous fight we can tell who can win.

If Chelsea are to win the Champions League then bookies favour them to do it within the 90 minute mark.

Wycombe hit by transfer embargo

Wycombe Wanderers have been placed under a transfer embargo after failing to file their accounts on time.

adams-park-635842173.jpg (470×200)

The temporary embargo will not directly affect the club's attempts to avoid relegation from League One with the season's final loan window having already closed.

Wanderers are also playing down the issue, which relates to their accounts for the year ended June 30 2011. A statement on Wycombe's official website read: "The accounts were scheduled to be filed with Companies House and the Football League by Saturday March 31 but have been delayed due to the imminent sale of Adams Park tenants London Wasps. Because of the uncertainty surrounding Wasps, the club have been unable to finalise the budget for the forthcoming season.

"This means the club has been placed under a temporary transfer embargo but this should have no effect due to the transfer and loan window being closed. The embargo will be lifted once the accounts have been filed and the audit has been completed. The club would like to reassure supporters that the matter will be resolved in the coming weeks."

Wycombe Wanderers Trust, meanwhile, have announced that David Roberton and Don Woodward have both resigned their positions as supporters trust directors on Wycombe's board as a result of the club's failure to lodge its accounts.

Southend United Vs Cheltenham Town football match preview

Southend United's poor home run has seen them win just 1 and draw 2 of the last six. While Shrimpers have scored 4, a worringly large 9 have been leaked at the other end. Southend United are just outside the promotion places, in 5th, having taken 67 points from 39 games.

Cheltenham Town's away form is none too clever either, accumulating just 1 victory and 1 draw from their last six played. The Robins's have scored 9 goals in these games, but conceded an alarming 11. Cheltenham Town's total of 65 points from their 39 games sees them sitting in the playoff places in npower League Two.

AC Milan Vs FC Barcelona football liga match preview

AC Milan have never lost the home leg of a European Cup quarter-final tie, winning 10 and drawing four. The Serie A champions have conceded 11 goals, the most times of any side left in this season's competition. Current Milan players Ibrahimovic, Maxi Lopez, Van Bommel and Zambrotta have all had spells with the Blaugrana during their careers.

Barcelona have already beaten AC Milan at San Siro this season, winning 3-2 on Matchday 5 during Group H action. Guardiola's side topped Group H with 16 points and the Italians were runners-up with nine points. The Catalans have won nine matches in a row in all competitions since a 3-2 loss to Osasuna in early February.

Crystal Palace see themselves just below half way in the npower Championship, showing a record of 53 points from their 38 games played so far,

Doncaster Rovers have an average recent record on the road, seeing them win just 1 and draw 2 of the last six. While the Rovers have hit 6 goals, 9 have hit the back of the wrong net. Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderers match preview

Aaron Lennon is likely to be missing for Spurs, meaning that Harry Redknapp will again have to find a solution to cure a lopsided midfield that has affected the north Londoners' performances in recent weeks. Spurs are also without long-term absentees Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Heurelho Gomes. Carlo Cudicini, Ryan Nelsen and Danny Rose are likely to deputise for the side's cup squad.

Ricardo Gardner, Lee Chung-Yong and Stuart Holden have been missing for the Trotters for much of the season and they have been joined by Fabrice Muamba as the midfielder continues to recover in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest in the tie's initial game. Top scorer Ivan Klasnic may return to the side after starting the weekend's win over Blackburn on the bench and Arsenal loanee Ryo Miyaichi is likely to continue on the left wing after a string of excellent performances since his temporary switch to the Reebok Stadium.

Cardiff City VS Coventry City football match preview

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has hinted Rudy Gestede could return. After drawing 0-0 with Burnley at the weekend, Mackay will be desperate for his squad to show they are not suffering a Carling Cup hangover following the defeat on penalties to Liverpool. Since that game the Bluebirds have only won only one of their five games, scoring just four goals in the process.

Coventry are sweating on the fitness of striker Cody McDonald. McDonald was only fit enough for a place amongst the substitutes in the 1-1 draw with Watford at the weekend and may have to settle for a similar role again as he struggles to fully overcome a groin problem. Andy Thorn also has concerns over winger David Bell who has missed the Sky Blues' last three games with a groin problem.

Liverpool vs Stoke City football liga match preview

Liverpool have only managed to claim victory in four out of their last 12 fixtures, drawing four and losing the same amount. The Reds are looking to claim a domestic double for the first time since 2001, when they beat Birmingham City on penalties to lift the League Cup, then defeated Arsenal in the dramatic closing minutes of the FA Cup final thanks to two goals from Michael Owen. This will be the first time the two sides have met in the FA Cup since 1988, when a Peter Beardsley strike helped Liverpool win a replay.

The Anfield encounter will be Stoke City’s 46th game of this season, having started the campaign in July against Hajduk Split in the Europa League. While Liverpool have played all of their FA Cup games at home, Stoke have had to play each of Gillingham, Derby and Crawley away from the Britannia Stadium. The Potters have only conceded more than one goal once in their last 15 FA Cup ties, spanning three seasons.

Crystal Palace Vs Hull City football liga match preview

Wilfried Zaha is suspended for Crystal Palace's clash with Hull. The teenage winger starts a three-game ban after he was sent off during the 1-1 draw at Burnley last weekend. Midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi could miss out again with a hamstring injury but winger Sean Scannell should be fit after a tight calf.

Hull winger Robbie Brady hopes to shake off a recurring thigh problem in time to feature. Brady missed the midweek win at Cardiff that propelled the Tigers back into the top six, but could return to contention. The Tigers, in sixth place with a game in hand on most of their rivals, are unbeaten in their last 10 league matches.
