Fulham manager Martin Jol: Some of the players don't like me, but we have to be professional

The Dutchman has a tough-love approach to dealing with his players, something not everyone appreciates, but he insists he does it for motivational effect only

Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted he believes some players in his squad don’t like him, but added that he doesn't care.

The former Tottenham bos is adamant he won’t be changing the way he deals with his troops, adding that his tough approach is there to try and inspire and motivate his team.

Speaking to reporters, Jol said: “It's not provocation. For me it's inspiration and trying to stimulate them.

“They always realise that I always try to get the best out of them. It will never be personal.”

He continued: “I'm sure there will be one or two in the starting XI who don't like me, but it's about doing the business for the club.

“You can't keep all of them happy all of the time.

“Even when I don't like them I wouldn't tell them.

“I would probably be a good actor and do as if I like them because that is my job to be professional. “

The Dutchman rubbished a reported recent bust up with striker Bobby Zamora and explained that he likes to put extra pressure on the players to help them perform.

He added: “In any team you have to get the pressure to perform.

“I had the same with [Andy] Johnson and I had the same with [Danny] Murphy.

“With 80 per cent of the players, we have to try to create a sort of atmosphere to get the best out of them.

“It was the same with Bobby a couple of months ago. I thought to rest him and I left him out and he was moaning he was not going with us to Denmark.

“I thought I did a good thing to rest him, but players always have different opinions.

“For me, the main thing is that we get the best out of them and they give 100 per cent.” - http://www.goal.com
