Mancini - Rooney influenced red

City boss accuses United striker of getting his skipper sent off

Roberto Mancini believes Wayne Rooney influenced Chris Foy's decision to show Vincent Kompany a red card in Manchester City's 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. A spirited second-half fightback from City saw them push the Red Devils close at the Etihad Stadium, but the damage had already been done. The Blues conceded three times in the opening 45 minutes and saw club captain Kompany dismissed for a foul on United winger Nani. He lasted just 12 minutes of the third round tie, leaving City short on numbers for a large portion of the game. City are planning to appeal against Kompany's impending suspension, as they feel the match officials got a big call wrong. Mancini feels the Belgium international should have been allowed to stay on the field, and he says he might have done had it not been for the reaction of Red Devils striker Rooney.

Mistake
Mancini said: "It was not a red card. Rooney told him (Foy) his decision." "It was not a red card. Rooney told him (Foy) his decision."" Roberto Mancini Quotes of the week When asked to clarify whether he felt Rooney had influenced the decision, Mancini said: "Yes, he was near the referee." Mancini referred to last week's 3-0 win over Liverpool, when he himself was criticised for waving an imaginary red card after Martin Skrtel fouled Yaya Toure. The Italian said: "When I did this against Liverpool, people told me not to do it. "I said I was sorry and made a mistake. Today... Maybe if you look at it." Rooney has been quick to reply to Mancini's accusation and said on Twitter: "Funny how people think I got Kompany sent off. I'm not ref. I didn't give red card. But it was a clear red card. 2 footed tackle."- http://www1.skysports.com/
