Premier League top four favourites Arsenal and Manchester United have gained positive football predictions following their impressive victories last Sunday.
A combative Arsenal side trounced Liverpool with a clean sheet 2-0. The Gunners took advantage of The Reds’ poor form and unleashed firepower through new signings Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski.
Podolski’s 31st-minute shot went through the Liverpool post. Cazorla benefited from Steve Gerrard’s passing error to Luis Suarez and assisted the German international for his first goal in the league.
Rising star Raheem Sterling continued to operate Liverpool’s midfield in an impressive fashion, but he failed to shine due to failed efforts of his experienced colleagues. Diaby remarkably starred in Arsenal’s midfield and provided numerous goal chances, including an assist to Olivier Giroud whose attempt narrowly missed the enemy woodwork.
Cazorla sealed Arsenal’s victory with a 69th-minute shot assisted by Podolski. Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina’s mistake in letting the ball through revealed his decline. He committed the same error during his club’s match against Hearts of Midlothian in the Europa League play-off.
Manchester United showed early-game struggles while playign against toughoponnent Southampton, but won through late goals resulting to a Robin van Persie hat trick 3-2. The Saints fought hard by scoring the first goal through a Rickie Lambert header.
Van Persie’s response came in the form of an equalizing volley kick. He missed on a potential scoring attempt when Southampton’s watchful keeper, Kelvin Davis, saved his penalty. Morgan Schneiderlin headed through United’s woodwork to post a 55th-minute lead for the Saints.
United appeared headed for another loss as they failed to score in the middle of the second half. Hope came in when van Persie shot for a second goal in the 87th minute. The Dutchman and former Arsenal captain scored an extra-time thriller that gave manager Sir Alex Ferguson a fitting victory in his 1000th match with the club.
