Wayne Rooney Wants to Be Midfielder in Later Part of His Career; Arsene Wenger Wishes Premier League Spending to Pattern FIFA’s Financial Fair Play Rules

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney continues to pull out more interesting details on his footballing future by saying that he wishes to become a midfielder later in his career.

His disclosure of details in his newest book My Decade in the Premier League includes his revelation on his hardships as United’s centre forward. He said that playign against tough oponnent defenders and numerous injuries have affected his physique.

Rooney said that being a midfielder could still give him the ability to create impacts on games. He plans to change to that position when his keenness on going past backlines start to wear out.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke about his preference on the imposition of spending limits on Premier League clubs. Discussing before a manager’s forum in the Switzerland headquarters of UEFA, he said that as an admirer of “pure football”, he personally wants the spending limits to take effect in the league. He added that it is much feasible for clubs to spend based on the revenues they have generated, as a matter of measuring how large they are.

Wenger’s comments are in line with the Premier League club chairpersons’ meeting held on Thursday. The chairpersons gathered to talk about implementing possible measures that can control the way clubs spend their money on players. Ideas presented during the meeting will meet a deliberation process before this year ends.

The chairpersons concluded the meeting without arriving at any decision. West Ham United co-owner David Gold remarked that most of those who are present in the meeting agreed that it is proper to establish measures that will monitor and regulate spending within the clubs.

Gold said that around 14 or more clubs agreed with the idea of creating regulations in club spending. That meets the minimum requirement of 14 agreeing clubs needed for the league to start making the rules. Chelsea, Manchester City, Fulham and Everton were among the clubs identified to be in disagreement with the idea of imposing spending limitations.
