Football Scoreboard Latest Match News: Wayne Rooney Interested to Become England’s Permanent Captain

FOOTBALL LATEST MATCH UP OCTOBER – Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has expressed his desire to take on the England captaincy someday after leading the team to an impressive 5-0 away win against San Marino.

Rooney has played past through rival teams with England for 77 times already. Manager Roy Hodgson named him vice-captain of the squad during EURO 2012.

Substituting Steven Gerrard as captain last Friday, Rooney considers permanent captaincy as “…a great honour and hopefully one day it can be full-time”.

Hodgson said that Rooney is “unbelievably serious” in playing for the national team. He admitted that he would have a hard time choosing between the United striker and Frank Lampard, another potential captain, when the Chelsea midfielder returns from injury.
