THE LATEST SPORTS BET UPDATE – Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero expressed his impression that referees in the Premier League favour English players over foreign players, particularly in diving.
As City played past through rival side Fulham in their encounter last Saturday, the defending league champions contested penalty appeals for Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez – both of which are turned down. On this account, Aguero said that foreign players get negative bias from referees.
Aguero continued by saying that English players enjoy “a little bit of privilege” with the referees. He believes that there is a possibility that referees harbour suspicion against foreigners and if that is true, it would “not [be] good for anyone”.
The Argentinian striker, City’s top scorer last year, noted that he does not want to get involved in any confrontation with referees. He remarked that in any game, referees may make wrong decisions, but that should not stop them from playing on.
Apart from Aguero’s statements, concerns about Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’ diving reputation resulting to unjust judgment from referees came to the fore. Captain Steven Gerrard acknowledged that it would be up for the referees if they choose to judge him positively or not.
In response to Aguero’s allegations that the referees are biased, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson replied to say that foreigners in the league are the ones who are prone to diving. He said that there are more foreign divers in the league’s history.
Ferguson’s remarks followed after his side lost while hosting Tottenham on Sunday. He remains firm in his assertion that they truly deserve a penalty kick following referee Chris Foy’s decision not to do so after the Spurs’ Jan Vertonghen appeared to have fouled Nani. The manager said that when it comes to penalties, “[S]ometimes you get them, sometimes you don't”.
